Myrbetriq (mirabegron) reduces muscle spasms of the bladder and urinary tract.

Myrbetriq is used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of frequent or urgent urination and urinary incontinence.

Myrbetriq may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Important information

You should not use Myrbetriq if have severe kidney disease, severe liver disease, or severe uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure).

Call your doctor at once if you have any of these side effects while taking Myrbetriq: fast or pounding heartbeats, pain or burning when you urinate, or increased blood pressure (severe headache, buzzing in your ears, anxiety, confusion, chest pain, shortness of breath, uneven heartbeats, seizure).

It may take up to 8 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using this medicine as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 8 weeks of treatment.

Before taking this medicine

You should not use Myrbetriq if you are allergic to mirabegron, or if you have:

  • severe kidney disease;

  • severe liver disease; or

  • severe uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure).

To make sure Myrbetriq is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

  • kidney disease;

  • liver disease;

  • high blood pressure;

  • glaucoma;

  • enlarged prostate, urination problems; or

  • trouble emptying your bladder (very little urine or a weak stream of urine).

It is not known whether Myrbetriq will harm an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

Myrbetriq can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. You should not breast-feed while you are using this medicine.

Mirabegron is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.

How should I take Myrbetriq?

Myrbetriq is usually taken once per day. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

You may take Myrbetriq with or without food.

Take this medicine with a full glass of water.

Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow it whole.

Your blood pressure will need to be checked often.

It may take up to 8 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.

Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

Myrbetriq dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Incontinence:

Initial dose: 25 mg orally once daily

Maintenance dose: 25 to 50 mg orally once daily based on individual patient efficacy and tolerability

Usual Adult Dose for Urinary Frequency:

Initial dose: 25 mg orally once daily

Maintenance dose: 25 to 50 mg orally once daily based on individual patient efficacy and tolerability

What happens if I miss a dose?

Skip the missed dose and wait until your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should I avoid while taking Myrbetriq?

Follow your doctor"s instructions about any restrictions on food, beverages, or activity.

Myrbetriq side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Myrbetriq: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using this medicine and call your doctor at once if you have:

  • fast or pounding heartbeats;

  • pain or burning when you urinate;

  • painful or difficult urination; or

  • dangerously high blood pressure--severe headache, blurred vision, pounding in your neck or ears, nosebleed, anxiety, confusion, severe chest pain, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeats.

Common Myrbetriq side effects may include:

  • increased blood pressure;

  • headache;

  • cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat; or

  • constipation, diarrhea.

What other drugs will affect Myrbetriq?

Tell your doctor about all medicines you use, and those you start or stop using during your treatment with Myrbetriq, especially:

  • digoxin;

  • flecainide;

  • propafenone; or

  • thioridazine.
