PackingGroup: III
Moderately toxic by ingestion and intraperitoneal routes. A skin and eye irritant. An experimental teratogen. Other experimental reproductive effects. Flammable liquid when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidizing materials. Moderate explosion hazard in the form of vapor when heated. Mild explosions have occurred at the end of distillations. To fight fire, use alcohol foam, CO2, dry chemical. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes. Standards and Recommendations:
OSHA PEL: TWA 100 ppm (skin)
ACGIH TLV: TWA 5 ppm (skin); BEI: 100 mg/g creatinine of 2-ethoxyacetic acid in urine end of shift at end of workweek
DFG MAK: 5 ppm (27 mg/m3)
DOT Classification: 3; Label: Flammable Liquid
Analytical Methods:
For occupational chemical analysis use OSHA: #53 or NIOSH: Esters I, 1450.
